A lock that stumped LPL for this long. You got a scure lock on your hands
ssssssssss 2 өдрийн өмнө
Very smart "around the block" complication, hard to pick w/o destroying the lock. But drilling a 3-4mm hole in the casing 2-3mm above the key center axis, enough to penetrate the wall will give you access to the pins. Use a cobalt or diamond bit, drill until you hit yellow metal of the idler. Create a tool like the key minus the pin engaging arm and minus the outer part above the key center axis, use to rotate the idler and tension the main cylinder, pick the pins through the hole. Or if you want to go brute, just drill the whole damn thing with a larger bit. Where I live, the street is full of contractors and power tools noises every day, no issue for a determined burglar.

What happens if you turn the inner piece and drop the pins into the lock, is it possible to force turn it? I get that you will destroy some springs, but im just curious

Late to the party on this one, but am impressed by the thought that went into this lock (and its successor). My concern would be that, having to walk around with too many keys on a chain, that narrow bit of stainless steel is liable to get bent out of shape. Same with their padlock version which, living in a climate where such locks can ice up, would seem to guarantee bending a key like that. In both scenarios it's highly unlikely that a local locksmith can cut a new key for you. Of course I'm under no illusions about the security locks give me, whether it's a cheap hardware store one or a highly engineered one like this Bowley. Just locking the damned thing is good enough. If the local druggies want in they will, despite the care I've taken to install properly blocked latch plates with long and strong screws, just kick the door to pieces. Those scum don't watch LPL and couldn't follow the directions anyway.

Okay, stupid question time: Why not just machine a pick that is shaped like a key and raises the pins by pushing (or pulling possibly) on metal bands (or nylon strings) running through the pick?

Why not design a lock that has the pins so far inside the case or outer surface that a pick can’t even reach the pins and such? Also having like 10+ pins would help. Just a thought

I finally see a lock on this channel that is worthy of buying for real security. Obviously discounting brute force, that is. You need security metal jams and such to prevent that (Kicking in the door). At that point though, you might as well not have windows on your house or have them all barred. Great video and great channel as well! Thanks, LPL!

Oooookayyyy... I just looked at a locksmith video and thought about an unpickable lock, even sketched it up in AutoCAD, 40 minutes later MNdown recommends this video with the SAME KEY concept with slightly different(more traditional) look but the same basic hook mechanism to avoid picks being able to reach the pins... this is a bit scary... and no I did not talk about this near my PC/Phone so I don't know if how this happened... what are the chances?

Love this channel. Question - is there a lock that has key cuts on 4 sides? The key would be shaped like an X with each run having a unique cut. I am asking because for the longest time I have had an image in my mind of a lock just like that. Of course, my wife would still get it open (I would use it on my workshop) somehow and subsequently use my every expensive hand tools in the garden (don't laugh, she does it all the time).

The way those keys look they will certainly sooner or later break in those thin parts leaving part of the key inside, probably non-recoverable. So, neat idea, but not practical for prolonged use.

I have a hard enough time with a Medico lock and keys that I have access to at a client. The key is soft enough brass that the key way grooves get blocked over time because the brass is abused in my pocket banging on other things. I have gotten a fine file set to fix the keys, which I guess is a win. Unless I can't get the damn key in the lock. *sigh* Those keys look like a pocket nightmare, unless they are made of some kind of tough steel. Then cutting them would be interesting. At that moment, a drill would be fine, or a large domestic SUV.😆😆

Something I assume is either lock makers work side by side with locksmiths and creat locks pickable with skill or extra knowledge required, or they don’t at all and make locks so ridiculously simple to pick or un ironically un pickable due to manufacturers flaws or clever design.

I'll go out of the box. Insert your rotation tool then try to position the pins by pulsing the unit with compressed air. Another possibility is to drill an access hole directly above the the key insertion.

Was hoping to see a lock resisting to LPL one day. Done. BUT - my feeling is that the key seems fragile. The U shape looks thin and could move in your pocket (of you fall from your bike for example) And could be quite messy, each time you grab your key, everything is coming with has its has the shape of a hook (earphones, entry badges...)
